Bring your Pooch to the 4th Annual Blue Ridge Paws in the Park!

One of the things I love so much about Blue Ridge is all of the dog lovers that come to visit this town.  The town is so welcoming of all the animals as many have dog bowls full of cold fresh water for all the visiting four legged friends.  Also, many allow you to take your “baby” into the store with you!paws in the park.jpg

If you have not had the chance to enjoy the Paws in the Park, now is the year for this fun opportunity.  On Saturday, October 15th, bring your pet to the 4th annual event.  Join hundreds at the beginning of the leaf season for a fast and yet relatively flat certified 5K run and Mutt Mile!  (the mutt mile is a shorter version.  This is perfect for walkers and little ones)

The 5K registration starts at 7:30 and the race begins at 8:30.  This great event is sponsored by the Humane Society of Blue Ridge, Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association and the store Love Dogs and Cats too.  paws in the park 2

After the race, there will be a parade that is always a blast.  Many dress up their adorable pets and show them off in the parade which is a walk around the beautiful town of Blue Ridge. Even kitties and llamas have participated in the fun.  Come participate in one of the many events that make this town so awesome!  Also, call us to book your pet friendly cabin for that weekend.

Reasons to Rent a Four Bedroom Cabin!

You may be thinking….my family isn’t that big.  Why in the world would we need to rent a four bedroom luxury cabin when we go to visit the quaint town of Blue Ridge in the North Georgia Mountains?  Friend and family times spent in these large cabins make for memories that a hotel could never offer.  Below are some of the main reasons to consider this type of rental for your family vacation as well as listing some of the cabins that Georgia Mountain Cabin Rental has to offer!

Affordability is a huge reason for considering this option.  Multi family vacations are becoming extremely popular because people are able to split the cost and be able to enjoy a much nicer vacation rather than having to flip the whole bill alone.  Often several families may decide to stay at a hotel together and if you are in a nice place, you will easily pay $150 to $200 a night per family.

Consider High View Lodge.  An amazing four bedroom, 3 bath cabin that is $250 a night.  High view lodge 3That is the price for Memorial Day Weekend!  Imagine splitting the price among two to three families.  This is much more affordable than all of you getting your own hotel room.  Not to mention how  cozy to sit out by the beautiful outdoor fireplace while overlooking miles of gorgeous panoramic views. You don’t find many cabins that can offer 40 miles of views!

So we have established the fact that it is cheaper to rent a larger cabin and split the cost.  azure ridge 2How about memories that can be made with your family and friends?  Some people cringe at the thought of sharing a cabin with other people.  However, did you realize most of these cabins have a minimum of three bathrooms?  Your very own bedroom and bathroom and then share the common areas for all of you to enjoy together.  Spend time together playing pool, relaxing in the large hot tub, enjoying  board games and outdoor time.  Imagine all the stories that can be told around this campfire at our cabin called Azure Ridge?

The larger cabins also offer several nice amenities for a large crowd to enjoy such as a gaming room or large television with surround sound to enjoy late night movies together.  Look atBear Creek Lodge water this beauty named Bear Creek Lodge that actually has it’s very own putting greens in the basement!  Talk about fun games with friends and families.  Also, this awesome cabin was listed in “The Country’s Best Log Homes Magazine.” You will also enjoy the amazing creek that you can fish, wade and watch kids have the time of their life!

As if all these reasons aren’t enough to make you want to go ahead and make your reservation for a large family/friend getaway, there is tons of entertainment in the area that you all can enjoy.  The beautiful downtown Blue Ridge area is within minutes of most of our four bedroom cabins.  It is full of amazing shops and restaurants for all to enjoy.  One family can stay home and enjoy privacy at the cabin while the other heads to enjoy hiking and waterfalls in the area.  It is also the time of year for tubing and kayaking so get ready for some awesome adventures.

Call us today at 706-632-5751 and let us know which one of our four bedroom cabins suits you and your family!  We have more than what we have listed so let us know your desires and we will help you enjoy a vacation you will never forget.

5 Benefits of Renting a Pet Friendly Cabin

dog pictures

Vacationing with your furry friend can bring many benefits to you and your family.  If you are like me, your dog is not “just a pet” but a valuable family member. Choosing to stay in a pet friendly cabin when you visit Blue Ridge in the North Georgia Mountains can bring many benefits to you, your pocketbook and your family.

  • The number one reason is you will save money.  Putting your precious pet in a kennel for a week can be extremely costly.  Not to mention the fact that your dog will most likely be in a cage most of the week with little roaming.
  • Limit your stress level.  Let’s face it…unless your pet has stayed at the same place over and over, you are going to worry and ponder over if the kennel is taking proper care of them.  Once when I was on a beach vacation, we put our beloved Jack Russell, Rusty, in a kennel.  He was so nervous the entire time that he made himself sick and they had to call me several times to report to me how he was doing.  This is not something you want when you are trying to reduce stress on a mountain vacation!
  • dog at waterfallPets enjoy the mountains! They are a lot like us.  Who doesn’t enjoy all of the nature and God’s beauty that surrounds the mountains? Hiking on fabulous trails, exploring new waterfalls, and running through pastures of green grass are all a fantasy come true for most dogs. Blue Ridge is no doubt a dream come true for your outdoor loving dog.
  • Pets are beneficial to mental and physical health. Multiple studies have proven that pets actually help to release mood enhancing endorphins that can truly benefit us.  I know that when I am stressed out, having a hard time with something, my dog can sense my frustration.  He lays beside me, licks my face and let’s me know everything is going to be ok.  Who else feels this way?
  • dogs in waterFamily bonding is enhanced with a pet.  Dogs love being with us.  They are not meant to be strapped to a tree and never have interaction.  They love their owners and want to spend time with them.  Have family bonding time with your kids and pets by visiting the waterfalls of North Georgia together or go on some amazing hikes in Blue Ridge such as to the Swinging Bridge?  The downtown Blue Ridge area is extremely pet friendly.  Many of the stores will allow you to bring your pet inside their facility and often you will see bowls of water outside of their store.

Blue Ridge is truly a great place for a summer vacation to spoil your pets as well as yourself.  There is so much to do as well as relaxation time awaiting you.  Check out our amazing pet friendly cabins and plan your summer vacation now!  It is right around the corner.  You will be happy you chose Blue Ridge and your doggie will too!

Fine Cuisine in Blue Ridge

The town of Blue Ridge has come a long way from years ago when we only had a few restaurants in the area.  Now, visitors come from all over and enjoy such a variety of delicious cuisine.  Personally, I think Blue Ridge has some of the best restaurants in the North Georgia area.  I am starting a series of blog posts regarding different types of food choices in the area because we have many visitors asking us the best restaurants in town.  I would be curious if you agree with me.  Please comment and let me know your thoughts.

Today I am focusing on some of the top choices in fine dining in the area.

Black SheepThe Black Sheep is the newest fine dining restaurant in the town.  As evident in the name, the owner Steve Oyer wanted to bring something new or different into Blue Ridge.  An amazing menu full of mouth watering steaks, fresh seafood, pasta and array of other fine food is always available.  We took my parents here for their 50th wedding anniversary and created some wonderful memories.  This venue also has a full bar full of cocktails and over 2,000 bottles of wine in their cellar!  The Black Sheep has 5 private label Tuscan wines and Black Sheep Moonshine distilled exclusively for their guests!  It is an amazing place for family events, a special night out on the town or any other celebration.

cucina rustica

Talk about fine Italian dinner cusine!  Cucina Rustica is an amazing choice for all of you pasta lovers that appreciate excellent service and quality food.  A charming atmosphere that offers a diverse selection of gourmet pastas, pizzas, fresh seafood and a variety of other amazing dishes. My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here and was made to feel very special by the waitresses and staff.  Excellent choice for any occasion or just because you love Italian food.

Christy lees courtyard 2This is a picture of the courtyard at Christy Lee’s.  Often you will find entertainment in the courtyard to enjoy while eating delicious food!  Excellent steak, pork, chicken, pastas, pizzas are available for dinner and lunch choices.  Christy Lee’s could be considered fine dining but also a casual atmosphere.  An excellent place to visit and located in the heart of historic downtown Blue Ridge.

harvest on main

Harvest on Main is a unique fine dining experience that everyone should try when visiting this town!  See how quaint and cozy it is on the inside?  Roaring fireplaces that will warm your bones and a staff that will make you feel incredibly welcome to the North Georgia Mountains.  Harvest is known for supporting our local farmers and they use as much local produce as possible.  A lunch and dinner menu with a variety of steaks, pastas. salads, kids choices and many other excellent choices.

Stay tuned for more blog postings regarding the excellent food choices in Blue Ridge.  What do you think of these four restaurants?

Tubing Choices While Vacationing in Blue Ridge!

Last weeks blog discussed whitewater rafting opportunities for those daredevils with an adventurous spirit! As promised, this week I am blogging about another fun North Georgia Mountain water activity to enjoy for those of you that prefer a more “calm ride.”  Tubing while enjoying your stay in Blue Ridge is a relaxing experience that you can share with your family, significant other, on a girl trip or alone with your favorite novel!

tubing toccoaRolling Thunder River Company offers tubing or kayaking on the scenic  Toccoa River.  What is great about this activity, is your child only needs to be at least five years old.  Obviously, on most whitewater rafting adventures, they need to be older.  The Rolling Thunder Company offers different lengths in tubing and they operate on dam controlled rivers.  Generally, this is a gentle and relaxing trip but check with the company to find out if the waters are faster due to heavy rains that have occurred.  When it is going fast, what was supposed to be a two-hour trip can turn into a quick 45 minutes.
Toccoa River Adventures located in McCaysville, Georgia (just a little distance from Blue Ridge), claims to have the toccoa river adventure buscheapest tubing ride in the area.  You can get a tube for $6 to $7 and they also offer tubes to hold coolers as well.  As indicated from the picture, you can see the bus that you are able to use to hitch a ride back to your car after you finish tubing. They call this their Toccoa River adventure bus!   This adventure mainly runs along Horseshoe Bend Park and also occasionally the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway can go by where you are able to wave at all the passengers on the train!

tubing 2Shallowford Bridge Tubing is located in the Aska adventure area just past the shallowford bridge.  They offer a $9 tubing ride from May to September.  They claim to have the “best float in the area.”  This company will actually allow children at least two years of age to ride in the same tube as their parent.  If this is something you are willing to dare to do, you may want to go here!!! (doesn’t sound relaxing to me but to each his own!)  These guys are also open 7 days a week where many are not.

Toccoa Valley Campground is another amazing choice located in the Aska area.  Toccoa valley campground tubingThey offer a $10 tube ride as well as a shuttle to take you back from a six-mile route.  They will not allow you to put your own tubes in the water without paying the fee.  Your child must be at least five years old to float with Toccoa Valley.  They are open six days a week and closed on Sunday.  They also offer rafts for couples and families.

For those of you that may be experiencing tubing for the first time, there are several suggestions to consider.

  • Wear water shoes.  Lots of rocks can cut your feet!water shoes
  • If you must take valuables, place in zip lock bags.
  • Children must keep life vests on at all times.  Don’t take chances!
  • Wear a lot of sunscreen and a hat.
  • Tie your tubes together if you for sure want to stay with your party.  (especially kids)
  • If you have a young child, start with the shortest tubing adventure to make sure they do well.

As you can see, we have plenty of tubing to choose from in the mountains!  Hope these blogs have helped you decide which water adventure you prefer.  Comment about your wild and crazy rafting adventure or your peaceful, relaxing tubing trip.  Next week I will begin my blog on the amazing variety of restaurants that Blue Ridge has to offer our tourists as well as locals. It’s so exciting because every time I turn around, a new restaurant has come to this amazing town….
